The grasslands of the Colombian Llanos extend east from the foothills of the central Andes mountains. Forming part of the Orinoco River Basin where a majestic river flows, this tropical savannah is the second largest in South America and teems with  wildlife. Known as Colombian “Cowboy country” due to the expanse of land used for commercial agriculture and cattle ranching, Los Llanos is also a frontier for those who like their sports mixed with adventure. Flying over the wetlands or trekking through lush woodlands to watch migrating birds are some of the attractions of the region. In this picture, a powered parachute takes to the skies near Puerto Lopéz, as dark clouds gather, and a Llanero sun begins to set.
